DISTRIBUTING SEDIMENT OVER CONTAMINATED SITE AT EAGLE HARBOR

Contract consisted of importing 205,000 tons of sand and hydraulic placement of the material. Sand was imported via large material barges and was trans-loaded using a conveyer barge equipped with spuds to a placement barge. The placement barge was equipped with a track hoe modified with a nozzle and high pressure pump (2,200 GPM).

Mounted on the track hoe was a GPS unit with computer for Data Logging. The placement barge was maneuvered using two 65 foot tug boats. The Data was collected during placement and furnished to the ACOE for compiling and giving direction on placement to achieve the desired thickness of the cap. The cap was placed in 5- 40 feet of depth in Eagle Harbor WA. The placement rate was approximately 2,500 tons per day and was completed ahead of schedule.
